Leuchtenbergia principis

 
Long and thin leaves that are green to bluish-green with l-o-n-g soft spines at the apex of each leaf. As leaves age, they discolor then drop off which exposes the trunk that becomes thicker and more beautiful. Flowers are bright yellow and about 2-3” in diameter.
